How to say Something like that in Thai

Just like how Americans like to put the phrase ‘something like that‘ at the end of sentences. Thai people do the same. The phrase is in Thai is อะไรแบบนั้น (à-rai bàep nán).

First, let’s break the word down and see some common variations.

Something like that in Thai

อะไร (à-rai) has 3 meaning

  1. What?
  2. Anything
  3. Something

Here we focus on the third meaning which is ‘something’.

แบบนั้น (bàep nán) means ‘like that’. Therefore อะไรแบบนั้น (à-rai bàep nán) means something like that.

So if you just want to say ‘like that’ in Thai, you can simply say one of the following:

  • แบบนั้น
    bàep nán

  • อย่างนั้น
    yàang nán

  • ประมาณนั้น
    bprà-maan nán

Variations

There are few other ways to say something like that:

  • อะไรอย่างนั้น
    à-rai yàang nán

  • อะไรประมาณนั้น
    à-rai bprà-maan nán

you can change นั้น (nán) to นี้ (née) meaning from ‘that’ to ‘this’

  • อะไรแแบบนี้
    à-rai bàep née

  • อะไรอย่างนี้
    à-rai yàang née

  • อะไรประมาณนี้
    à-rai bprà-maan née
