Wishing a Happy new year in Thai
You can say either of the following 2 ways:
- Happy new year!
สวัสดีปีใหม่
sà-wàt-dee bpee mài - Happy new year!
สุขสันต์วันปีใหม่
sùk-săn wan bpee mài
Another way to wish someone a happy new year in Thai is:
- I wish you a happy new year!
ขอให้มีความสุขวันปีใหม่
kŏr hâi mee kwaam sùk wan bpee mài
Let’s breakdown some of the vocabulary:
- ปี (bpee): Year
- ใหม่ (mài): new
- วัน (wan): day
- สุขสันต์ / ความสุข (sùk-kà-săn / kwaam sùk): happiness
- ขอให้ (kŏr hâi): May you..

Thais also celebrate Songkran day (วันสงกรานต์ wan sŏng-graan) and Chinese new year (ตรุจจีน dtrùt jeen).
Songkran day is celebrated April 13th-15th every year and is the true traditional Thai new year.
Chinese new year takes place between 21 January and 20 February every year.
To wish someone a happy Songkran day, you can use the same pattern:

To wish someone a Happy Chinese new year, you can use the same pattern:
