by | Dec 8, 2020 | Thai, Vocabulary

นัก (nák) is used as a part of many words in Thai. You will definitely hear this word a lot.

Even if you don’t know what the entire word containing nák means, if you hear it you will know it has something to do with a profession. If you know the word that comes after nák then you will be able to guess the meaning!

นัก by itself is used as a prefix before many compound words to describe a profession. For example: นักเรียน (nák rian). นักเรียน means student. เรียน (rian) means “to study”. So the nak prefix + to learn = student.

The formula is นัก (nák) + verb or noun.
