“What is your name?” is a question you will ask and get asked often in Thailand. Let’s learn how to say it.

What is your name in Thai is คุณชื่ออะไร (kun chêu à-rai). Literally: You name what?

Let’s break it down.

คุณ kun = You

ชื่อ chêu = Name

อะไร à-rai = What?

How to say My Name is In Thai

If you are a female:

To say “My name is” in Thai as a woman, you say: My name is Grace/ ฉันชื่อเกรซ /(chăn chêu Grace). Literally: I name Grace. Girls say ฉัน chăn to mean “I”.

If you are male:

To say “My name is” in Thai as a man, you say: My name is John/ ผมชื่อจอห์น /(pŏm chêu John). Literally: I name John. Guys use ผม pŏm to mean “I”.

His/her name is

To say “His/her name is” in Thai, you would say: His/her name is B/ เขาชื่อ B /(kăo chêu B). เขา (kăo) means him or her.

Keep in mind a lot of times, Thais will respond with their nicknames. Most, if not all, Thai people have a nickname due to their real name being long and difficult to pronounce.
