ข้าง (kâang) and ด้าน (dâan) both mean “side”. So, in the following examples, you will see different ways to say the same thing.

บน (bon) = on top of/above

• The dog is on the table
  หมาอยู่บนโต๊ะ (măa yòo bon dtó)
  หมาอยู่ข้างบนโต๊ะ (măa yòo kâang bon dtó)
  หมาอยู่ด้านบนของโต๊ะ (măa yòo dâan bon kŏng dtó)

ข้างล่าง (kâang lâang), ใต้ (dtâi) = below, under

• The dog is under the table
  หมาอยู่ใต้โต๊ะ (măa yòo dtâi dtó)
  หมาอยู่ข้างใต้โต๊ะ (măa yòo kâang dtâi dtó)
  หมาอยู่ข้างล่างโต๊ะ (măa yòo kâang lâang dtó)
  หมาอยู่ด้านล่างของโต๊ะ (măa yòo dâan lâang kŏng dtó)

หน้า (nâa) = in front of

• The dog is in front of the door
  หมาอยู่หน้าประตู (măa yòo nâa bprà-dtoo)
  หมาอยู่ข้างหน้าประตู (măa yòo kâang nâa bprà-dtoo)
  หมาอยู่ด้านหน้าประตู (măa yòo dâan nâa bprà-dtoo)

หลัง (lăng) = Behind

• The dog is behind the door
  หมาอยู่หลังประตู (măa yòo lăng bprà-dtoo)
  หมาอยู่ข้างหลังประตู (măa yòo kâang lăng bprà-dtoo)
  หมาอยู่ด้านหลังประตู (măa yòo dâan lăng bprà-dtoo)

ข้าง (kâang) = side

• The dog is beside the house
  หมาอยู่ข้างบ้าน (măa yòo kâang bâan)
  หมาอยู่ข้างๆบ้าน (măa yòo kâang kâang bâan)
  หมาอยู่ด้านข้างของบ้าน (măa yòo dâan kâang kŏng bâan)

ระหว่าง (rá-wàang) = between

• The dog is between the houses.
• หมาอยู่ระหว่างบ้าน (măa yòo rá-wàang bâan)

ใน (nai) = Inside

• The dog is inside the house.
  หมาอยู่ในบ้าน (măa yòo nai bâan)
  หมาอยู่ข้างในบ้าน (măa yòo kâang nai bâan)
  หมาอยู่ด้านในบ้าน (măa yòo dâan nai bâan)

นอก (nôk) = outside

• The dog is out side of the house.
  หมาอยู่นอกบ้าน (măa yòo nôk bâan)
  หมาอยู่ข้างนอกบ้าน (măa yòo kâang nôk bâan)
  หมาอยู่ด้านนอกบ้าน (măa yòo dâan nôk bâan)
