If you want to be good at telling stories in Thai you need to know all the connector/ linking/ transition / conjunction words that Thai people like to use.

I will show you a whole bunch of these connecting words in Thai with examples on how to use them.

1. But แต่ / แต่ว่า (dtàe / dtàe wâa)

I like him but he doesn’t like me.
ฉันชอบเขาแต่เขาไม่ชอบฉัน
chăn chôp kăo dtàe kăo mâi chôp chăn

2. And และ (láe)

I traveled to America, Colombia and France.
ฉันเคยไปเที่ยวเมกา โคลัมเบีย และ ฝรั่งเศส
chăn koie bpai tîeow may-gaa koh-lam-bia láe fà-ràng-sàyt

3. With กับ (gàp)

I don’t know (with) whom I should talk to.
ฉันไม่รู้พูดกับใครดี
chăn mâi róo pôot gàp krai dee

4. Or หรือ (rĕu)

Oranges or mangosteen which is more delicious?
ส้มหรือมังคุดอร่อยกว่า
sôm rĕu mang-kú-dor-rôi gwàa

5. Because เพราะว่า / เพราะ (prór wâa / prór)

I can not go to the party tonight because I am very busy.
ฉันไปปาตี้คืนนี้ไม่ได้เพราะยุ่งมากเลย
chăn bpai bpaa dtêe keun née mâi dâai prór yûng mâak loie

6. Therefore I… เพราะฉะนั้น…ก็เลย (prór chà-nán… gôr loie)

I was very busy, therefore I couldn’t go.
ฉันยุ่งมากเพราะฉะนั้นฉันก็เลยไปไม่ได้
chăn yûng mâak prór chà-nán chăn gôr loie bpai mâi dâai

7. Used to…already เคย…แล้ว (koie … láew)

I (used to) talked to him already but he doesn’t listen.
เคยพูดกับเขาแล้วแต่เขาไม่ฟังเอง
koie pôot gàp kăo láew dtàe kăo mâi fang ayng

8. Once…then right away… พอ…แล้วก็…. (por… láew gôr…)

Once I’m done with work, I went back home right away.
พอทำงานเสร็จแล้วก็กลับบ้านเลย
por tam ngaan sèt láew gôr glàp bâan loie

10. When ตอน / เวลา (dton / way-laa)

When I was young I didn’t like to go to school
ตอนฉันเด็กๆฉันไม่ชอบไปโรงเรียน
dton chăn dèk dèk chăn mâi chôp bpai rohng rian

11. So I… ฉัน… ก็เลย (chăn… gôr loie)

When I was young I didn’t like to eat carrots so when I grew up I wasn’t strong.
ตอนเด็กๆฉันไม่ชอบกินแครอท โตมาก็เลยไม่แข็งแรง
dton dèk dèk chăn mâi chôp gin kae-rôt · dtoh maa gôr loie mâi kăeng raeng

12. Which ซึ่ง (sêung)

It’s a question which I myself don’t know the answer to.
มันเป็นคำถามซึ่งฉันเองก็ไม่รู้คำตอบ
man bpen kam tăam sêung chăn ayng gôr mâi róo kam dtòp

13.That / Which ที่ (têe)

The day that you weren’t here
วันที่เธอไม่อยู่
wan têe ter mâi yòo

14. Both… and ทั้ง… และ (táng… láe)

Both you and I, we will live together forever
ทั้งเธอและฉัน เราจะอยู่ด้วยกันตลอดไป
táng ter láe chăn · rao jà yòo dûay gan dtà-lòt bpai

15. Despite ทั้งๆที่ (táng táng têe)

Despite knowing that it’s not something you should do, you still do it.
ทั้งๆที่รู้ว่าเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่ควรทำก็ทำ
táng táng têe róo wâa bpen sìng têe mâi kuan tam gôr tam

16. Although/Even Though แม้ว่า (máe wâa)

Even Though I don’t have time, I have to go.
แม้ว่าไม่มีเวลาก็ต้องไปให้ได้
máe wâa mâi mee way-laa gôr dtông bpai hâi dâai

17. However/ No matter what อย่างไรก็ตาม (yàang rai gôr dtaam)

No matter what, he is still my husband. I can’t do anything.
อย่างไรก็ตามเขาก็เป็นสามีฉัน ฉันทำอะไรไม่ได้
yàang rai gôr dtaam kăo gôr bpen săa-mee chăn · chăn tam à-rai mâi dâai

18. If ถ้า (tâa)

If you don’t want it then don’t buy.
ถ้าไม่ต้องการก็ไม่ต้องซื้อ
tâa mâi dtông gaan gôr mâi dtông séu

19. Otherwise ไม่อย่างนั้น (mâi yàang nán)

Eat it, otherwise just throw it away.
กินไป ไม่อย่างนั้นก็ทิ้งไปเลย
gin bpai · mâi yàang nán gôr tíng bpai loie

20. The fact that การที่ (gaan têe)

The fact that he speaks like this means that he doesn’t love me
การที่เขาพูดแบบนี้หมายความว่าเขาไม่รักฉัน
gaan têe kăo pôot bàep née măai kwaam wâa kăo mâi rák chăn
