Thailand has 3 official seasons (rainy, hot, and cold). The north of Thailand is infamous for the smokey or burning season but this is not really a season as I will explain in the article.

Season ฤดูกาล réu-doo gaan or หน้า nâa

Let’s start with the word for Season. Season in Thai is ฤดูกาล réu-doo gaan or just simply ฤดู réu-doo. You will notice that all the months in Thai start with ฤดู réu-doo.

Alternatively, you can replace ฤดู with หน้า nâa, as หน้า also means season (only for cold, hot, dry, and rainy season). You will see examples as you read on.

Summer ฤดูร้อน réu-doo rón

Summer in Thai is either ฤดูร้อน réu-doo rón or หน้าร้อน nâa rón. They both mean the same thing.
ร้อน rón is Thai means hot.

In Thailand, the summer season (hot season) is from mid-February to mid-May.

Rainy Season ฤดูฝน réu-doo fŏn

Rainy season in Thai is either ฤดูฝน réu-doo fŏn or หน้าฝน nâa fŏn.
ฝน fŏn in Thai means rain.

In Thailand, the rainy season is between mid-May to mid-October.

Winter Season ฤดูหนาว réu-doo năao

Winter Season in Thai is either ฤดูหนาว réu-doo năao or หน้าหนาว nâa năao.
หนาว năao in Thai means cold.

In Thailand, the winter season (cold season) is between mid-October to mid-February.

Spring Season ฤดูใบไม้ผลิ réu-doo bai mái plì

In Thai, spring season is either ฤดูใบไม้ผลิ réu-doo bai mái plì.
ใบไม้ผลิ bai mái plì means blossoming leaves.

Thailand does not have a Spring Season.

Fall / Autumn Season ฤดูใบไม้ร่วง réu-doo bai mái rûang

In Thai, fall season (or autumn season) is called ฤดูใบไม้ร่วง réu-doo bai mái rûang.
ใบไม้ร่วง bai mái rûang means falling leaves.

Thailand does not have a fall season.

Dry Season ฤดูแล้ง réu-doo láeng

in Thai, dry season is ฤดูแล้ง réu-doo láeng or หน้าแล้ง nâa láeng.

In Thailand, the dry season is made up of the cold season and hot season.

Burning / Smokey Season

This is not actually a season. It’s just a period of time in the north of Thailand in which there is poor air quality and lots of pollution. This happens during the dry season and is caused by forest fires. and burning of crops.
